NSW Legislative Assembly

In 2005, Glenn Leembruggen and David Gilfillan designed and commissioned a new sound system for the Legislative Assembly for ICE Design’s sister company Acoustic Directions.  This chamber had suffered for many years with poor sound resulting from the use of loudspeakers located in the rear of the Members’ seats.

The design of this system was challenging from many perspectives, including the need for approval by the NSW Heritage office.  Unusual and innovative loudspeakers were jointly designed by Glenn, David and the NSW Government Architects, and were the subject of a conference paper presented to the UK Institute of Acoustics conference.

The commissioning work for this system included ICE Design’s innovative Predictive Loop Gain Optimisation process, which increases the gain before feedback, reduces reverberant colouration of the sound and results in higher speech clarity and increased listening comfort.
